With a career spanning nonprofit leadership, public health, advocacy, and affordable housing, Lakeysha Sowunmi is dedicated to building stronger, healthier, and more equitable communities. As a Resident Services expert, she has developed comprehensive strategies focused on resident retention and satisfaction, while spearheading initiatives that drive deep community engagement.
Lakeysha has a proven track record of working directly with diverse populations across California—including seniors, youth, and individuals with special needs. By leveraging strategic partnerships with community-based organizations and county resources, she ensures residents have access to essential needs and sustainable support systems.
A published author and tireless civic advocate, Lakeysha has spent over 18 years balancing high-impact professional leadership with a commitment to her family as a mother of three young adults.

As the President of the San Diego Women’s Affordable Housing Network (WAHN), she champions professional growth and leadership for women across the industry while driving systemic impact in the housing sector.
In her previous role as the Senior Director of Resident Services at Community HousingWorks, Lakeysha led the department with a focus on strategic growth and operational excellence, overseeing programming and data alignment for a portfolio serving over 12,000 residents. She is a recognized expert in developing comprehensive strategies that target resident retention and community engagement, with a proven track record of serving diverse populations across California—including seniors, youth, and individuals with special needs.
Lakeysha’s leadership was instrumental in identifying and securing key partnerships for specialized case management, particularly for Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) populations. By leveraging deep-rooted relationships with community-based organizations and county resources, she ensures residents have access to sustainable support systems.
